Following innumerable auditions, Willis contributed small film appearances, ordinarily uncredited, in advance of landing the role of private eye "David Addison" along with sultry Cybill Shepherd in the strike romantic comedy television sequence Moonlighting (1985). His sarcastic and wisecracking P.I. is observed by some as a dry run for the role of
